Rally to Protest ‘Dumb Growth’
Environmentalists were teaming at Salmon Arm's Marine Park protesting what Shuswap Environmental Action Society President Jim Cooperman says is 'dumb growth' planned around Shuswap Lake.
He says it applies to any number of projects from the West Beach proposal near the mouth of the Adams River to developments at Carmel Cove in the South Shuswap and Mara Lake south of Sicamous. He says it also applies for the big box stores along the TransCanada at the West end of town, planned for a sensitive area in a flood plain, which would require 90,000 truck loads of fill.
The rally ran from 11:30 to 1:30 as the Columbia Shuswap Regional District Board considers three controversial development projects.
