UPDATE: At least three dead in Avalanche

The RCMP have confirmed at least three deaths after an avalanche on Boulder Mountain northwest of Revelstoke.

The avalanche struck Saturday afternoon, during an annual snowmobiling event known as the Big Iron Shootout.  At least 200 people attended that event.

At last word, Mounties said there were at least 12 people injured.

There are an unknown number of people still missing.  Search and resuce crews continue to scour the area Sunday morning.

The Canadian Avalanche Centre had issued an avalanche warning for the area after a heavy snowfall blanketed the region.
