Wildfire Risks

The NDP Forestry Critic says 'here we are in 2010 following another summer of serious wildfires and we're still talking about getting moving on wildfire interface management."

Norm Macdonald says the Forest Practices Board report last week says only a small portion of the highest risk areas have been treated.  The Columbia River Revelstoke MLA says much of the affected area is on Crown land which means the provincial government is responsible for fuel management. 

 Macdonald says the Opposition has been clear that the government needs to make interface fire management a spending priority.  However he says, the provincial Liberals are showing no real commitment to get the work done.
