Although Chair of the Finance Committee Chris Coers said they tried to keep cuts as far away from the classroom as possible, Board of Trustees Chair Teresa Hebert isn't so optimistic about the effects...

"But now that we've actually done them and passed the budget now our staff have to actually go about having to decide what that will look like on the ground and in the classroom and it will be painful." Says Hebert.

The Board was dealing with a $360,000 shortfall. Instead of implementing a fee for buses, the trustees cut elsewhere including:

$78,000 - Board Office Administration and Principal Admin. Costs

$48,000 - Student Services

$45,000 - transportation assistance - parents will no longer be reimbursed for driving their own children if a bus route isn't convenient.

Other savings will come by reducing leases, telephones, photocopier equipment, and utility costs.
